Glossary

Palo - the palo is a stick or club used to hit the pinata when Playing the Pinata Game.

Pinata - A decorative paper mache sculpture used to highlight a party (typically birthday parties and posadas). Pinatas can be made or shaped into virtually any object (i.e. Stars, Clowns, Animals, etc.) and for playing the pinata game or as decoration (e.g. center pieces).

Posada - La Posada celebrates the journey of St. Joseph and Virgin Mary to Bethlehem.

Peregrinos - (Spanish for Pilgrims) During the days celebrating la Posada, family, friends and neighbors gather to re-enact the journey of St. Joseph and Virgin Mary to Bethlehem (everyone divides into two groups, peregrinos and innkeepers).
